I was at Dogtown last summer. It is amazing how a group of people can do so much good. This article shows that with a bit of education, here provided by the National Geographic special on Dogtown, there is a chance for rehabilitation for these animals badly treated by their fellow humans. I hope people will watch this show and make a sound decision on where they get their pets and, should they choose to have one, that it is a lifelong commitment just like having a child.
It's great to read such a positive review of the Nat Geo special. I am an employee of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and I don't have cable, but I'm looking forward to watching the first two episodes tomorrow night with a bunch of my fellow employees who are recording the shows. One note of clarification. Dogtown is just one of many areas here at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in southern Utah. We have 1500-1800 animals here on any given day, mostly dogs and cats, but we also have horses, pigs, bunnies, birds, wildlife and others. All these lucky animals receive the same loving care and attention as the residents of Dogtown and I consider myself very fortunate to be involved in this wonderful operation. You can find out all about us at www.bestfriends.org
'Dogtown is wonderfully heartwarming and heartbreaking all at the same time.Very informative, entertaining, and eye opening. Such a wonderful outreach! My sincere thanks to all staff at dogtown and Best Friends society, for the love and care you give these animals, and thanks Nat Geo for a great new series, that will make a difference!
I have just finished watching the 1st episode of Dogtown on NGC and was saddened with the way these animals are treated but was amazed to see such a turnaround with such dogs like Animal the little terrier..I was horriffied to see that it is legal to keep these poor animals in such small cages and forced to mate for puppies for their entire lives until they can't have any more litters and are then put down or shot..This show is a must watch for all families out there thinking of going out to get a dog or any animal as it shows just how much love and care any animal deserves.
I would also like to say just how much of an amazing job the people of places like Dogtown do for these animals..
