Taylor did NOT buy out his contract. What part of 'dropped' don't you understand? He was dropped not only for poor sales, but for his rude, crass attitude and refusal to cooperate with people to whom he should have bowed down in gratitude. His sales alone would never have led to his being DROPPED. In a sense, he dropped himself. He dropped his own ball on his own foot.
From day one, when I saw the TH audition on AI, I thought he had a special and very unique sound. Was he the best of the best...perhaps not, but when you hear his voice you know it is him. Unfortunately, there were only two people on the AI panel that were in his corner (Paula & Randy) because they are from the South and can understand the genre of music that TH performs. From day one, Simon was against putting him through because Simon didn't see $ signs in his eyeballs. Why? First of all, Simon doesn't understand the genre and doesn't like it. Secondly, Simon saw that genre as a genre that has died off. There aren't many singers singing that style of music anymore...that genre's heyday is pretty much over and the CD buying public is very young and doesn't even know about this genre. The majority of the people that voted for TH are an older crowd...those that remember a sound of the past. Unfortunately, those people don't spend a lot of $ on CD purchases! TH is one of the modern day singers trying to bring that genre back and it will be an uphill battle if the industry doesn't back him...and that is exactly what has happened. Simon didn't like the genre or TH and Clive Davis tried to promote TH as something else, which is like trying to make a Mercedes out of a VW Bug...it just doesn't work. I could understand why TH stood his ground to promote himself in the genre that fits him. If AI/Clive Davis would have promoted him in his genre and backed him 100% instead of a weak 10%, then TH would have been more successful than he was. Personally, I think the two independent CD's that TH produced are far better than the self-titled CD Davis produced. I've seen TH in concert and I wasn't disappointed in the show at all. However, my disappointment comes with the AI crew who seem to have failed promoting their winner. Shame on AI for not standing behind the People's Choice!
You poor delusional SP'ers. Taylor can not sing. He is a joke. America has spoken and dismissed Taylor as the looser he really is.
You cheated to get him the win, but you can't buy him a voice, or a winning personality! Daughtry or Pickler should have won.
Taylor's management did not promote him properly. For God's sake, even Bucky Covington got a proper video made of his first single. Without visual media on VH1 covering an artist, they are doomed to failure. Look at all of the American Idol successes and you will see that their videos were played in high rotation on VH1 and MTV, etc. Taylor's mgmt. didn't even make a video of any of his songs, just some slapped together thing with still shots or rehearsal footage thrown in. He is way better looking than Elliot Yamin, and even he looks hot in his video (that was played all the time on VH1, by the way). Hopefully his new mgmt. team will be able to market him effectively. I am in my 40's, but I will spend $$ on a CD if I like a song or two on it. I really like 90% of the songs on Taylor's latest CD, so I bought it. I think he's good and have seen him in concert 3 times this year...a great performer. That's why he won and will continue to perform, even if he doesn't sell a lot of records.
Taylor has been talking about buying out his contract with JRecords for at least 3-4 months. Why is it so hard to accept that? LOL! It's Daughtry who will be licking Clive's ass until he has no use for him. By then, Taylor will be doing as he pleases. Yes, Taylor got exactly what he wanted and GOT.
Yeah Clive dropped him because his butt buddy Simon didnt like Taylor, and so the company didnt bother to pay off radio stations like they usually do to play his album. Taylor is recording this year and is happy. Thats all that matters. Why argue?
This is great news for Taylor!! He will be just fine without JRecords. They never promoted him anyway.
Taylor Hicks is a fantastic, energetic, crowd-pleasing performer and singer. He completed a very popular tour this past year, and his stage persona is what gets his fans going. There is no one who can deny his positive image in his stage performances. He loves music and performing, and I do hope, even with J Records dropping him, that he will continue to perform and be successful.
Taylor was a special event on American Idol, and no one has followed in his footsteps yet. There are few who could bring his genre of music back to life and people loved it as though it was a totally new form of music.

Taylor mentioned a few months ago that he was planning on trying to buy out his contract. That might have been what happened. He wasn't getting any support from them anyway. Anything would be an improvement. But either way, he'll be better off having total and full musical creative freedom on his next album to do it the way he wants without the constrictions from JRecords. It might even be the STAX Record Label which he talks about so often. We'll have to wait and see. Can't wait for his next move.
